Control

Learning to distinguish what I do and do not have control in seems to be an ongoing growth process for me. I know logically that I only can control my thoughts, emotions, and behaviors - but there is still a small whisper at times when I feel powerless that says, “Maybe… maybe if I read the right books, ate healthier, or generally was a better person… then (fill in the blank here) wouldn’t happen.” This week, I’m practicing a technique of allowing myself to acknowledge and then surrender to the unpleasant sensation of not having control - letting it move through me instead of panicking and trying to immediately find solutions. How do you cope with feeling powerless and not having control in situations where you wish you could?
